Welp! This here was my first entry for the Iron Wig contest! Our challenge was to start with a Leia, Arda's long, braided pigtail wig. [link]
-- and do whatever we wanted with it!
I legitimately couldn't think of an amazingly ORIGINAL idea for this one. I was so stumped-- I really like to go off of references, inspiration, and things like that for my wiggies. That may be just because I'm not super imaginative, who knows! XD But character wigs are what I really like to do, so the first thing I needed to do with the Leia was reconstruct it into something I could work with that *wasn't* a pigtail style.
The sides of the wig were pretty bare between the wefts (because the wig isn't made for doing anything except pigtails drawn to the front), so I removed all them all and made some of my own with a bit of the extra length! Practically rebuilding the wig made it a whole lot thicker, and it also fixed the direction of the fibers so that I could pull off this look.
So after some teasing, hairspray, razoring, and a faux-hairline (attached with glue, but styled only with hairspray), I ended up with this fun style inspired by Rosso the Crimson from Dirge of Cerberus!! She's clearly got a little elf and Poison Ivy in her, too! I'm very happy with the way it turned out, all things considered.
I actually struggled a lot with my self-confidence with this wig. A lof of the other contestants were pulling out some amazing "hair art" (that's what I'm calling them because, to me, they're beyond wigs. Just incredible stuff!), and here I am with just a cosplay wig. But then I realized that, hey, that's what I'm good at. And I need to be proud of that and embrace it.
